FAMILY HEALTHCARE CENTER HOSTS PANEL DISCUSSION ON HEALTH CARE IMPACT ON COMMUNITIES

Fargo, ND - One of Family HealthCare Center's activities during National Health Center Week was a panel discussion Thursday August 12 on the economic impact of accessible health care.

Panelists included ND State Senator Judy Lee, ND State Representative Kathy Hawken, MN State Representative Paul Marquart, MN State Representative Morrie Lanning, and Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker.

FHC Executive Director Patricia Patron, and Board Member and Innovis surgeon Dr. Timothy Mahoney, also participated.  Mahoney talked about how accessible primary health care reduces strain on area emergency rooms.  Representative Marquart agreed, citing how Community Health Centers like Family HealthCare Center serve as a medical home, treating the whole patient.

Mayor Walaker, who toured FHC earlier this summer, talked about the importance of patient education and involvement in successfully managing chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.  He pointed out FHC's commitment to helping patients manage their own health.

Panelists also heard comments and questions from audience members during the noon hour discussion, which was moderated by Charley Johnson.
