The Family HealthCare Pharmacy works cooperatively with the medical providers of the Family HealthCare Center to procure free or reduced cost medications through various manufacturers of medications.
These programs serve low income patients who have no other prescription coverage. Each manufacturer determines the guidelines for their program.
The Prescription Assistance Coordinator and pharmacy staff assist Family HealthCare patients in filling out applications and determining what types of proof of income are needed to qualify for the program. The application forms are signed by the medical provider and submitted to the manufacturer. Medications are received at the clinic within a month in most cases. These medications are dispensed to the patient through the pharmacy for a small handling fee.
Some programs provide a card that is processed like an insurance card to provide the medication to the patient through the program.
Some prescription assistance programs are offering medications to qualified Medicare patients in the coverage gap.
Reapplication for the programs is necessary based on the requirements of each program. All patients wishing to access prescription assistance programs in conjunction with their Family HealthCare medical provider are required to work through the Prescription Assistance Program.

Remember that the medication may not be available until the form is processed by the manufacturer and the medication mailed out to the clinic.
Proof of income:Documentation which shows all income for a household.
Small handling fee:
While the Family HealthCare Center does not charge for the medications received for a patient from a prescription assistance program it does reserve the right to charge a small handling fee. This fee is used to offset costs for personnel processing the forms and other associated costs.
Medicare D coverage gap:
Medicare D patients who are not eligible for the low income subsidy may enter a coverage gap each year. A patient may apply to the available prescription assistance programs and if they are eligible by income level and other requirements of the program, they may be able to receive medication through the program while in the coverage gap. The numbers of programs serving Medicare D patients in the coverage gap are much smaller than the numbers of programs that exist for uninsured patients. Check with the Prescription Assistance Coordinator to see if your medication is available through a program during the coverage gap.
